INCEPTION MEETING, PARSA

A program inception meeting of Psychosocial Support to Girls and Boys Vulnerable to Child Marriage and Violent Discipline; supported by Unicef Nepal and implemented by Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) and SODCC, Parsa on 24th January-2020, in the conference hall of Birganj Metropolitan, Parsa. There were 45 participants including Mayors, Deputy Mayor, Administrative officers, Education officers, Health Post in-charge, Principals, Child Clubs representatives of 3 palikas (Birganj Metropolitancity, Pokhariya Municipality and Parsagadhi Municipality) of Parsa, District Police Office (Women and Child Service Center), Women and Child Section in charge, District child welfare committee representative, Federation president of Journalist association Parsa and representatives from NGOs directly and indirectly involve in programs related to mental health and psychosocial well-being. The meeting was chaired by Ebrahim Dewan, President, SODCC, Parsa.

There were presentations on four different topics:

  1. Mental health, child marriage & Violent discipline, scenario, gap, chilliness and way forward :Pitambar Koirala, TPO Nepal
  2. Child protection and child rights: Prakash Acharya, Unicef
  • Overall project activities, need and expected output  & outcome : Ms Upama Malla, Unicef
  1. Child mental health program : Mr Ghanshayam Kadel, Health Section, Unicef

Mayor of Birgunj highlighted the importance of children’s development, the reason why they have been focusing on the issue regarding child protection and mental health and how this can make an impact over the nation’s development.
