Successful completion of 6 months psychosocial counseling training
Since limited number of human resources are available to work in the field of Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS), short-term to long-term training in MHPSS is very essential to fulfill the gap. After the devastating earthquake, many people were suffering from psychological distress in Sindhupalchowk district. Short term support from outsiders was not enough to deal with those problems, so capacitating the local people would be the best option to maintain sustainability.
With this aim of developing the local human capacity, “Six months (780 Hrs.) psychosocial counseling training” endorsed by CTEVT was conducted by TPO Alliance in collaboration with TPO Nepal in Sindhupalchowk district from 5th September 2017 to 9th March 2018. Nine participants from the local community successfully completed the course. Through this training, they were capacitated as a resource person (psychosocial counselor) who can be mobilized in the community to promote psychosocial well-being.
The training was facilitated in different phases so that the trainees had a chance to be exposed in the context of local communities which helped them to broaden their knowledge and skills. Various resource persons were mobilized to maintain the quality of the training. A final event was held on 29th March 2018 where participants received course completion certificate from Mr. Suraj Koirala, Executive Manager of TPO Nepal. The trainees expressed that to provide this kind of training for the local participants of Sindhupalchowk was a very good initiative.
