Group Psychosocial Support Manual

This support manual titled “Group psychosocial support intervention/Group Healing Activities” has been prepared to provide psychosocial support in a group for community people who are in need of psychosocial support. Psychosocial activists of TPO Nepal developed this manual based on their experiences and already recognized international interventions. The entire process was led by Mr. Pitambar Koirala. The core team of the this manual development are Ms. Ambika Balami, Ms. Sarita Shrestha, Ms. Bina Shrestha, Ms.Ratna Maya Lama. This document was reviewed by Prof. Dr. Shishir Subba, Dr. Shaligram Bhattarai and Dr. Kamal Gautam.

Psychosocial trainers/counselors working in the field of community psychosocial support in Nepal or similar community can provide group psychosocial support through the help of this manual. By implementing and evaluating it in different groups like human trafficking survivors, gender based violence, domestic violence and earthquake survivors in various districts of Nepal, this manual was published, only after its effectiveness was seen.

The group healing intervention is conducted for seven days in 3 phases (Phase I- 2 days, Phase II-3 days, Phase III- 2 days). After each phase of the intervention, there is a few days gap so that the participants could internalize the acquired knowledge and skills in their daily life and get opportunity to reflect it during phase wise intervention.

This manual was published on May 2017 by TPO Nepal, supported by USAID and The Asia Foundation.
