NHTC Module-2 training for Primary Health Care Workers

Five days of National Health Training Center (NHTC) Module 2 training and two days of research and evaluation were successfully conducted by TPO Nepal in Parbat district from 18th April to 24th April, 2021. A total of 11 health service providers from various health facilities across the Parbat and Kaski districts participated in the training.

The main objective of the training was to train the primary health care workers on mental health, based on the NHTC module 2 (Mental Health Training for Medical Officers and Health Assistants). The training started with the welcome speech delivered by Dr. Bhoj Raj Gautam, Chief, HO Parbat, where he highlighted the importance of Module 2 training and welcomed all the service providers to the event. Besides, he requested participants to learn well from the training, so the health service providers can apply that knowledge and skills in the community setting to overcome the burden of mental illness. The training session was facilitated by Dr. Dhirendra Poudel, psychiatrist, Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital, Baglung while Dr. Aayushree Gurung, Psychiatrist, BG Hospital Pokhara, facilitated the clinical sessions, and Ms. Sabitra Sharma, clinical supervisor/Trainer, TPO Nepal, facilitated the psychosocial sessions.

To ensure the effectiveness of the training, a pre-test, and post-test survey was conducted. The sessions were interactive and ample opportunities, such as role division among participants, group discussion, role-play, and group work was created to learn from one another. Each day, the training was concluded by a reflection meeting among participants and TPO staff members.

To summarize, the NHTC Module 2 training for primary health care workers held in the Parbat district was concluded with positive responses from the participants. TPO Nepal is grateful for enthusiastic participants and looks forward to the effective implementation of the training at the community level.
