Common Threads exhibition at Bhaktapur

An exhibition of Common Threads was held at Nalinchowk, Bhaktapur on 7th August, 2018. The exhibition was organized by TPO Nepal and supported by UNICEF, in coordination with psychosocial support center run by the local women’s cooperative. Common Threads is a program organized with the objective of providing psychosocial support to women. This program helps women bring out emotions such as worry, trouble, grief, happiness and hope by inscribing various patterns, designs and shapes in cloth known as story cloths and also helps them return to normal life gradually.

Fifteen story cloths were presented in the exhibition, prepared by local women during the 14-week session of Common Threads. The exhibition was inaugurated by Chairperson of ward no. 9 and Deputy Mayor of Suryabinayak municipality. Locally elected representatives and women of Suryabinayak municipality attended the exhibition and admired the story cloths prepared by the participants of Common Threads.

Juna Basnet, Deputy Mayor of Suryabinayak municipality thanked TPO Nepal for healing women who have endured various grief, including that of the earthquake. She also expressed commitment to work together with the women’s cooperative for the promotion of psychosocial well-being, capacity building and women empowerment in the community.
