Basic level workshop on Alternatives to Violence Program (AVP)

A three days basic level workshop on ‘Alternatives to Violence Program (AVP)’ was conducted at Nepal Police School, Sanga from 18 to 20 April, 2018. This workshop was organized by Nepal Police Headquarter, School Coordination Desk and conducted by TPO Nepal for the teachers of Nepal Police School. Sixteen participants from seven schools (Sanga, Samakhusi, Dhangadi, Rautahat, Dharan, Dang and Tanahu) attended the workshop. The objective of this workshop was to build the capacity of teachers on AVP and enable them to implement the skills in their daily teaching routine.

It was an intensive, three-day learning experience which taught interpersonal conflict resolution skills through a series of step-by-step processes. These experiences in small groups and one-to-one interactions built a sense of community and trust through exercises focusing on affirmation, communication, cooperation and creative conflict resolution. The methodology of this workshop was analysis and internalization by the participants through debriefing questions rather than the facilitator’s lecture.

The workshop ended successfully after distributing certificate to the participants. Mr. Jaya Prakash Shrestha, one of the participants, said that he was grateful towards TPO Nepal and Nepal Police School for conducting the training and expressed his commitment to implement the skills acquired through this training at his own school.
