Suicide prevention training for counsellors
With the support of Australain Aid TPO Nepal conducted a program named “Provide Psychosocial Support to Community to Prevent Suicide in Sindhupalchowk.” As per the project activity, five days training for psychosocial counsellors of Sindhupalchowk was organized from 26-30 March in Hotel Langtang, Chautara. The training focused on dealing with cases of suicide. Counsellors were selected after mapping of counsellors in the district level. The criteria was set to invite in the training which included local counsellors who have longer term program in the district. Total 18 (15 Counsellors and 2 CPSW, 1 health person – OCMC) participant were from Sathi, CDECF, WCO, Choutara Hospital, Nepal Redcross Society, DDC Sami Project.
The training was organized with the objectives to assess and identify the suicidal cases properly and conduct intervention properly. To implement therapeutic module for the intervention process to the person who have suicidal ideation and to make strategies to prevent suicide and provide effective care/support and establish referral mechanism in district for suicidal cases.
The training was successful in creating counsellors of Sindhupalchowk working with different agencies as one community to deal psychosocial problems in Sindhupalchowk. In the closing session Women and Children Officer Ms. Sandhya Rajeshwori Singh presented certificate to all participants. In closing remarks Women and Children officer stated that this training has provided opportunity to bring all the counsellors working in the district together which will help in further collaboration and support in the field of psychosocial.
