Project information:

REducing Stigma among HealthcAre ProvidErs (RESHAPE) is a 5-year research project that aims to improve the quality of mental healthcare provided by primary healthcare workers in the community healthcare facilities. The project is being implemented by TPO Nepal under the technical and financial support of the George Washington University. RESHAPE will be implemented in 24 municipalities of Gandaki Province.

TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed and result oriented candidates for the following positions:

Job Title                         :     Psychiatrist

Job station                     :     Pokhara field office with frequent field visits to neighboring districts

Number of openings  :       1 part time and 1 full time

Job Duration                  :     5 Months for part-time and 1 year for full time (possibility of extension)

Start date                      :     At the earliest

Major responsibilities

The Psychiatrist will be responsible for following duties but not limited to:

  • Conduct clinical interview with patients using Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID) tool.
  • Conduct training to doctors and health workers using NHTC Module 2 training manual.
  • Conduct supervision for health workers using NHTC Module 2 training guide.
  • Conduct regular supervision of clinical team.
  • Provide psychiatric services to the people at project sites.
  • Prepare report as per need.
  • Field visits in neighboring districts to conduct clinical interviews with patients and to conduct module 2 trainings and supervision sessions.
  • Work closely with the project lead/implementation coordinator to implement project activities.
  • Provide regular updates to the project lead and implementation coordinator.
  • Coordinate with project team and experts of TPO Nepal along with relevant government stakeholders for effective implementation of the project.
  • Other activities based on the need of the project and as assigned by the organization based on expertise. 

Qualification, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum MD in Psychiatry from a recognized university.
  • Experience in conducting training and supervision to medical doctors and health workers will be of added value.
  • Knowledge on Government of Nepal’s training packages and community mental healthcare programs.
  • Prior experience in conducting structured clinical interviews (such as use of SCID or K-SADS) would be an added advantage.
  • Interest in mental health research.
  • Good proficiency in computer skills (MS-Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to rural areas of the project sites.
  • Willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment.
