National Anti-Human Trafficking Day Celebration

The 16th Anti-Human Trafficking Day 2079 was celebrated with different programs in Kathmandu on September 5, 2022. Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens organized a rally to mark the day by jointly coordinating and collaborating with non-government organizations working in the anti-trafficking sector. 

The rally started at 10:30 am and passed through Bhrikutimandap, Putalisadak concluding at Pragya Pratisthan, Kamaladi. Government officials, human rights activists, and I/NGO representatives marched through the streets of Kathmandu with a slogan in Nepali “ Tinai Tahako Sarkar, Manab Bechhikhan Biruddha ko Sarokar” ( Three levels of government against human trafficking). 

The rally was conducted after 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak. Following the rally, the main program was conducted at Pragya Pratishtan which was chaired by different government officials and representatives from I/NGOs. Uma Regmi, a Nepali politician and current Minister of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens of Nepal attended the program as the chief guest. Different organizations and individuals who have been relentlessly working to stop human trafficking and rehabilitate the human trafficking survivors were awarded in the program. 

Similar rallies were also conducted in Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Parsa. The staff of TPO Nepal actively participated in the rallies that were conducted in the additional districts as well. Even though the government and concerned stakeholders are playing an active role in preventing human trafficking, Nepali people are still being subjected to trafficking in various forms, and in the modern technology and social media-driven world, human trafficking is also manifested in new forms.
