MoU between Institute of Medicine (IOM) and TPO Nepal

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine (IOM) and Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) on 12th October 2018. The purpose of this MoU was to define the co-operation, collaboration and partnership between IOM and TPO Nepal in strengthening of mental health system and services in Nepal through education, research, service delivery, and advocacy. Collaboration in the areas of research and publications, capacity building and joint grant applications was established through this MoU. The MoU signing event was attended by residents and faculties of Department of Psychiatry and Mental Heath, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) as well as representatives from IOM and TPO Nepal.

Executive Manager of TPO Nepal, Suraj Koirala, expressed his happiness on collaborating with a reputed institution and believed that research in mental health could be promoted further and findings disseminated widely. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Jagdish Prasad Agrawal, Dean of IOM emphasized the need to conduct quality research for generating evidence and hoped that this partnership could be a great beginning to further strengthen mental health system and services at IOM. Prof. Dr. Saroj Prasad Ojha, Head of Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) and Mita Rana, senior clinical psychologist at TUTH also conveyed their delight on such an important agreement which could be a good opportunity to focus on mental health research and capacity building.
