HIV/AIDS in Nepal is now considered a concentrated epidemic, spreading rapidly among high risk groups including migrant workers (and their wives), sex workers (and their clients), and injecting drug users. UNICEF estimates that there are 13,000 AIDS orphans, and another 111,000 children whose lives have been disrupted by their parents’ infection. There has been no comprehensive study of the psychosocial impact of HIV/AIDS on affected children and families in Nepal.
TPO Nepal is currently exploring avenues for extending psychosocial support services to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Â
