Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Nepal is a Nepali non governmental organization (NGO), founded in 2005 at the initiation of Healthnet TPO International.
Healthnet TPO International (and TPO International before a merger in 2006) has been active in Nepal since 1996. It initially partnered with the Center for Victims of Torture, Nepal (CVICT), where it focused on epidemiological research among Bhutanese refugees, technical support for torture rehabilitation and development of a long-term and skills-based counselling training course (currently employed by TPO, as well as other organizations, as the minimum standard for psychosocial counselling).
TPO Nepal has grown significantly over its three years of existence, from an organization focused primarily on one area of need (children in conflict), implementing a single project and funded by one donor, to an organization that currently focuses on several areas of need/psychosocial support including children and communities in conflict, psychosocial response in emergency settings, refugee psychosocial and mental health, and psychosocial aspects of human rights work. It is currently (2009) operating 5 ongoing projects with six different donors.
